Privacy policy

Last updated: 9 October 2026

PalsCals is an Android app published by Tansel Tokuroğlu, an individual developer based in Turkey, under the name Origami Mobile Development Labs ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have. Questions: support@palscals.com.

The short version

1. Data that stays on your phone

The following is stored only in the app's storage on your device and is never uploaded:

We cannot see or recover this data. You can delete a pal in the app at any time; uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes everything.

2. Access to your phone's contacts

With your permission, PalsCals reads your phone's contacts. It uses this access only on your phone:

Contact details are never uploaded, and the app never changes your phone's contacts (its access is read-only). You can refuse or withdraw the permission in your phone's settings; linking pals to your contacts then won't work.

3. What the app exchanges with our server

Our content server runs on Supabase, a cloud database service. The app uses it to:

As with any internet connection, our server and its hosting provider see your phone's internet (IP) address when the app connects. Standard technical logs are kept by the hosting provider for a short time for operation and security; we don't use them to identify you. All connections are encrypted (HTTPS).

4. Summarize

When you ask for a summary, our server — not your phone — does the following:

Only article content is sent — nothing about you, your pals or your phone. Summaries are stored on our server so the same article doesn't need to be summarized twice; they contain only article content.

To prevent abuse, our server limits how many summaries can be requested. For this it keeps a one-way, salted code (a "hash") made from your internet address, with the time of each request — never the address itself — and deletes it after 2 days.

5. Opening and sharing articles

When you open an article, in the app's preview or in your browser, it loads directly from the publisher's website, like any normal visit. That website can see your internet address and may use cookies under its own privacy policy.

When you send something to a pal, PalsCals hands the message to the app you choose (for example WhatsApp, email or SMS). That app's own privacy policy applies; PalsCals does not see or keep what happens after the hand-off.

6. Daily reminder

The optional daily reminder is a notification created on your phone itself. Its setting and time stay on your phone; no server is involved.

7. Content we collect from the web

Our server reads public news feeds and article pages to build the library, and sends public image links to wsrv.nl, an image-resizing service, to make thumbnails. No user data is involved, and your phone never contacts wsrv.nl.

8. Contacting support

If you email support@palscals.com, your message reaches our inbox through Cloudflare's email forwarding and Google's Gmail, and our replies are sent through Brevo, an email-sending service. We use your email address and message only to answer you, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.

9. Service providers

We rely on these providers, each under its own terms and privacy policy: Supabase (database and storage), Cloudflare (website and email forwarding), Google (Gemini API and Gmail), Jina AI (article reading), Brevo (sending email replies) and wsrv.nl (image resizing). Some of them process data outside Turkey and the European Union. Apart from support emails and the technical data described above, they receive no personal data from the app.

10. What we don't do

We don't sell or rent data, show ads, use analytics or tracking tools, build profiles, or require an account.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live — for example under Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK) or the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — you have the right to ask what data we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. Most PalsCals data never leaves your phone, so you control it directly in the app. For anything we hold, such as support emails, write to support@palscals.com. We handle the little data we receive to provide what you ask for (such as a summary or a reply) and to keep the service secure. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

12. Children

PalsCals is meant for adults and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from children.

13. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Important changes will also be mentioned in the app or on its store page.
